Alfa Rescue Society - Abu Dhabi Chapter in Action : Dear Alfisti, Just wanted to let you know of our latest rescue attempt of an Alfa in trouble. As you can see the Alfa in question is a 1999 GTV 3.2 liter V-6, 24 valve, 5-speed screamer being offered for sale by an Italian engneer by the name of Corrado. Ok, so it doesn't need rescuing, but it does need a sympathetic friend to take care of it when Corrado goes back home. If only these beauties had been available in the States!! This bad boy has been modified with Autodelta go-faster goodies, including a chip for higher RPM's, a modified suspension setup which lowered the car by one inch, poly bushings all the way around, a new free-flow stainless steel exhaust system with catalytic converters which sounds really great, and a body kit that gives it extra downforce. Corrado gave me a ride, and even in town, this thing is seriously fasssssst. Super smooth engine with tons of low end grunt, and a torque curve that just goes and goes and goes. Handling is fantastic, except for one little thing, the back end has almost no weight, and tends to get a bit jumpy going around the roundabouts. This is a town of speed bumps, and the little Alfa does scrape the undercarriage trying to get over the larger impediments. Corrado wants about $9,000 for the beast. Wish I could bring it back to the US. Perhaps I could take it apart, and Fedex it back. Anyway, enjoy the photos, this is a beautiful car. We're off this weekend to Dubai to look at a seriously troubled 1998 Alfa GTV with V-6, 3.0 liter, 24 valve engine in Sea Mist Green. The clutch is knackered,and the cam belt needs to be replaced. Perhaps about $2,000 worth of work. Being offered for sale for $1,200 by a Swede named Jasper. Will report back next week.

Formula 1 Preview - Abu Dhabi Festival : These photos were taken at the Formula 1 Festival held in Abu Dhabi on Feb 3 to launch the new Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi in 2009. All the major teams were involved in giving demonstration runs along a 2km straight line course which terminated in a ring that was approximately 100 feet in diameter where they did doughnuts to show off the sounds and power of the cars. All the cars were the new 2007 specs with V-8 power and featured teams with new drivers including Alonso in the McLaren and Kimi in the Ferrari. The cars had difficulty with the burnouts in such a confined space and the first three cars stalled in front of the VIP grandstand which included Bernie Eccleston, Piero Ferrari and Flavio Briatorri and the ruler of Abu Dhabi. Bernie was visibly upset by the cars stalling one after another and the following cars did not do burnouts. The driver of the Red Bull car could not get restarted, and decided to come over and hang out with the fans. His name is Michael Ammermueller and he did Formula 1 a huge favor by staying and signing autographs for more than one hour. We wish him the best of luck. He's a class act. The whole thing was run on the Corniche beachfront road and was totally free. They even provided free earplugs and bottles of water. We were no more than 100 feet from the cars and the whole event was a lot of fun. Watching Bernie getting heartburn was the iceing on cake. See you in Abu Dhabi in 2009.
